Farmer Learning Groups and DEMO plots created in Lira, Alebtong and Dokolo

As part of the INSPIRE Project’s commitment to resilient livelihoods and sustainable agricultural transformation, Farmer Learning Groups (FLGs) and Demonstration Plots (Demos) have been successfully established across Lira, Alebtong, and Dokolo districts. These initiatives are not just agricultural interventions, they are a bold step toward empowering farmers to lead innovation, adapt to climate realities, and improve food security at the grassroots level.

At the centre of this initiative are Lead Farmers, selected from local communities, who undergo practical training delivered by skilled Field Extension Officers (FEOs). These farmers serve as change agents, transferring knowledge to peers through Farmer Learning Groups, interactive spaces where hands-on training, knowledge exchange, and peer support happen regularly.

Supported by PIP Innovators and the Community Vision Committees (CVCs), the FLGs use Demonstration Plots to practically showcase improved farming techniques, sustainable land use, soil fertility management, and climate-smart agriculture. These model farms act as living classrooms where theory meets practice, and success is measured not in lectures, but in growing harvests and stronger communities.

The success of Farmer Learning Groups and Demo plots is a testament to what communities can achieve when given the right tools, training, and trust. With continued collaboration among lead farmers, extension officers, CVCs, and PIP innovators, these efforts are creating ripple effects that go beyond yields they are fostering dignity, resilience, and hope for farming households across Northern Uganda.
